Special Event

The Longest Day...... An Invitation to be in Motion....

Join Me On June 22, 2013

As many of you know, I first realized my mother, Linda Sue Saxton, had Alzheimer's disease 13 years ago the day after Thanksgiving and on what felt like the longest day of my life. She was just 54 years old.
While the summer solstice will be the longest day of this calendar year, we know that for people living with Alzheimer's and their families, every day can feel like the longest day. For this reason, the Alzheimer's Association has issued us all a challenge: be in motion for the entire 16 hours of daylight to honor those facing Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers.

I have chosen to take on this challenge in honor of my mother and the more than 37,000 others in Maine that are currently living with this disease.

On Saturday, June 22nd I will combine my love for endurance activities with my passion for ending this disease and I will do an Ironman for Alzheimer's!
I will need your support, on many levels, to make the day a success. I will be taking pledges and hope to raise $1,000 for every hour of the Ironman. I will also be asking for flexibility from all of you as I put together my training for this event.

More importantly, in addition to donations I am hoping people will join me by taking on their own personal longest day challenge, by participating in a small portion of the triathlon, or simply by being at my studio, Fitness Success, to help cheer me on along the way and at the finish line.
The Longest Day challenge is an opportunity to take just one day of our lives to honor the passion, dedication and strength displayed by people with Alzheimer's and their caregivers every day.

(Please note that I am doing this event technically the day after the National Event because I'm just like that :-)
